Why I Made These Videos
Gearing is a bit tricky because you’re balancing a lot of different factors and every choice has a trade-off. And that’s before dealing with the “quirks and features” of gearing in Forza Horizon 6. I’ve also seen a surprising amount of bad advice on the topic.
So it was time to make a new gearing tutorial for Forza Horizon 6 that would steer people in the right direction.
The Full FH6 Walkthrough
This video covers what you should know before tuning gears, and then explains how to use ForzaTune’s latest gearing features. In many cases our gear tuning formulas can improve launch, acceleration and top speed simultaneously.
I show you examples with an RX-7 and R8, then walk through the full process on the 1989 Nissan Silvia K’s.
Three Ideas That Go Beyond the Basics
If you take nothing else from the full guide, it’s the idea of the power band, which I cover in the short below:
The next idea didn’t make the final cut for the longer guide because we were already covering a lot. But it’s one of my favorite visual explanations. You’ll see how the power band and gearing graphs fit together.
And lastly, if you want to tune your gears by hand, the gearing graph in Forza is not always what you get. So take any tutorial that recommends that approach with a grain of salt. I give a quick rundown of why in this clip:
Put It to Use
I hope those videos help you get a deeper understanding of gear tuning in Forza Horizon 6. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment here or on the videos.
If you want to set ratios around the real power band from your vehicle and automatically balance launch, acceleration and top speed, start with the free version of ForzaTune here.
